A Highly Recommended 5G Router with Excellent Support
I don’t often write reviews but having tried many different 4G/5G routers, I wanted to save you time by recommending this this GL.iNet router, which I have found to be by far the best.Firstly, the speed is between 3X and 10X faster than the others out of the box but using an external 4-way MiMo antenna doubles the speed again and provides and excellent broadband service in a a rural area with a less than ideal 4G signal. It is easy to set up but there are a lot of additional features, such as VPNs, the ability to tether to another network, and dual SIM failover to name a few. After nearly 2 years, it has been very stable and reliable until a couple of weeks ago when it suddenly stopped working. Having a good product is one thing but the support provided by GL.iNet has been superb. The support team are knowledgeable and responsive and after some troubleshooting sent out a replacement unit.It is not the cheapest 5G router by any means but if you are looking for a good performing router particularly as a replacement for a fixed line service if it isn’t great in your area then look no further. The support is excellent and they come with a 24 month warranty.

    A Game-Changer for Rural Connectivity
I’ve been using the GL-X3000 cellular gateway for a while now, and it has completely transformed our internet. Living in a rural home, our BT fibre connection was painfully slow, giving us only about 2 Mbit/s down and 1 Mbit/s up. Since installing this device with a 5G SIM, we’re now getting a consistent 175 Mbit/s down and 4 Mbit/s up. The difference is night and day. It’s definitely on the expensive side, but I’m now confident it was the right call for a stable and powerful connection. One of the first things I have to mention is the support team. I had a specific question about the configuration and reached out, expecting to wait a while. They got back to me surprisingly quickly with a detailed, knowledgeable answer. It was great to deal with someone who obviously knew the product well. The device itself is incredibly well-made. You can feel the quality as soon as you unbox it; it has a reassuring weight and solid construction that makes you feel it’s built to last.Beyond the sheer speed increase, the other features are what make it a truly standout product:Connectivity Options: The dual-SIM feature is fantastic for ensuring the connection is always on, automatically failing over if one network drops. It also handles Multi-WAN, so you can blend different internet sources.Modern Speeds: It combines that powerful 5G modem with Wi-Fi 6, so the fast speeds are delivered effectively to all my devices.Built-in VPN: The onboard WireGuard and OpenVPN clients work really well and don’t seem to create a bottleneck, which is a big plus for security.OpenWrt: The fact that it runs on OpenWrt is a huge advantage if you like to tinker and customise your network settings. So, while it’s a significant purchase, its performance, solid build, and the surprisingly good support have made me feel it’s worth the investment. If you’re stuck with poor broadband and need a serious, feature-rich cellular router, I’d highly recommend it.

GL.iNet GL-X3000 (Spitz AX) 5G NR AX3000 Cellular Gateway Router not bad but pricey
After spending some time with the GL.iNet GL-X3000 (Spitz AX) 5G NR AX3000 Cellular Gateway Router, I have a good sense of its strengths and potential areas for improvement. Here’s my detailed take on its quality and uses:Build Quality and DesignThe GL-X3000 comes with a sleek, compact design that’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The build quality feels robust, indicating that it can withstand regular use without issues. The device is lightweight and easy to position discreetly within a home or office setup.Setup and User InterfaceSetting up the router was a straightforward process. The interface provides clear options for configuring various settings, making it easy to customize the router to your needs.PerformanceThis router is designed to deliver high-speed internet, and it does so quite effectively. Here’s a breakdown of my experience with its performance:Remote Area Connectivity: I tested the GL-X3000 in a remote area with limited 5G coverage. Despite these challenging conditions, the router managed to provide impressive download speeds of 170 to 200 Mbps and upload speeds of around 90 Mbps. For those on a tighter budget, this might be a consideration. However, given its capabilities and reliability, it still offers good value for money.Final ThoughtsThe GL.iNet GL-X3000 (Spitz AX) 5G NR AX3000 Cellular Gateway Router is a high-quality device that excels in providing fast and reliable internet, even in remote areas with limited 5G coverage. Nessun problema riscontrato in uso reale. Promosso!

I’ve been using the GL-X3000 for a while now, and I’m impressed with how much capability GL.iNet packed into such a compact device. Dual SIM slots, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi 6, and the ability to combine multiple WAN sources make it an incredibly versatile router. Whether I’m on cellular, tethering, or wired WAN, it handles everything seamlessly. One of the standout features for me is the software ecosystem. The built-in admin panel is beginner-friendly, but under the hood it runs OpenWrt, so you get access to advanced routing rules, VPN policies, and even eSIM support. I also love that I can enable AdGuard Home directly on the router for Pi-hole-style ad blocking, and use AstroWarp or WireGuard to aggregate bandwidth or access my home network from anywhere.Performance has been rock solid. Thanks to hardware NAT offload and a surprisingly capable CPU, it easily supports dozens of connected devices without slowing down. I’ve used it as a travel router, as a home VPN gateway, and even as an access point — it adapts to every role I throw at it.In short: the GL-X3000 punches way above its size. If you’re looking for a professional-grade router in a portable form factor that can grow from simple plug-and-play to advanced power-user configurations, this is an excellent choice.

Well built, stable, fast 5G download and upload speeds, very good firmware. Definitely a keeper! The FRITZ!Box 6850 5G I tried previously was not only much more expensive and significantly slower with the same 5G card in the same location, but also stopped working completely after just a few hours of use. Only gripe I had was that the GL-X3000 came with beta (snapshot) firmware pre-installed instead with the latest stable release, which struck me as quite weird since I don’t remember signing up for as beta tester. 🙂 Also, the default MTU value (1500) is way too high, the data packets were so large that the inital download speed was below 1 (in words: one) mbit/s. I couldn’t understand what’s wrong until Gemini gave me the decisive hint to lower it to 1420. Therefore only 4 stars instead of 5.Other than that, it’s a stellar piece of HW & FW, and I’m now hitting DL speeds of 400-600 mbit/s, and UL speeds of 130-170 mbit/s, which is faster than my previous fiber connection (althouth the idle ping is a bit higher – ca. 50 ms, but still online gaming works fine). All that without even an external antenna (but I live a few hundred meters away from my provider’s 5G tower). Next I’m gonna install the Waveform QuadPro 4×4 MIMO antenna and see if I can bring down the ping value a bit.All in all, highly recommended, but you MUST adjust the default MTU value.

I’ve been using the GL-X3000 (Spitz AX) for the past 3 years in my shop. I’m using Google Fi (T-mobile) and it’s been great. Setup was simple — once sim was activated (Google Fi portal), the router powered up fine and was able to get onto the cell network. Default APN came up as fast.t-mobile.com (since Fi uses T-mobile as it’s primary backbone) but quick and easy to change over to the correct APN for Fi (h2g2). Both worked fine, but the h2g2 is correct one for tracking everything in Fi app as well as more reliable.Web dashboard interface is *awesome*. Very well laid out and easy to navigate. Lots of options avail to configure but generally comes up with solid defaults for majority of cases. This was a significantly better solution than local fiber or copper internet connection — Xfinity wanted $450 setup fee + $200-400/mo. Speeds have been phenomenal (see pic). Also, in past three years, I’ve had a couple HW issues (SIM went bad, then issue with X3000 firmware update). In both cases, customer support has been phenomenal. Very responsive, great with debug and quick to send a new unit after I accidentally bricked one trying to update the firmware.I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this device to others.
