    Terrible toaster – badly made
Terrible toaster. Not fit for purpose. We’ve had Swan toasters for some years to match other kitchen items. This will be the third. This one is terrible. It’s extremely lightweight for a start. When it arrived I actually wondered if the box was empty. The problem is it’s so light that when you push down on the toast plungers the whole thing flies forward. You have to use both hands. One to hold the toaster down and one to plunge the bread. Similarly the button to pop the toast up is quite stiff and when you hit it the toaster moves away from you. Again you have to use two hands to steady it and hit the button. If that wasn’t enough the left hand plunger is stiff and it’s quite hard to get it to stay down. I’ve had it less than a week and will be binning it next week once Christmas is done. I won’t be buying Swan again. It wasn’t cheap but is cheaply made and not good enough.

    Blue Swan toaster
I’m really pleased with this toaster—it looks fantastic on the kitchen counter and adds a nice retro touch. The build quality feels solid, and the controls are simple and easy to use. The four slots are really convenient, especially for busy mornings or when making breakfast for more than one person.Toasting is consistent, and I like that you can adjust the browning level to suit your preference. The separate controls also make it flexible if you’re only using one side. It heats up quickly and does the job efficiently.Cleaning is straightforward thanks to the crumb trays, although you do need to empty them regularly to keep it looking its best. Overall, it’s a stylish and reliable toaster that performs well—definitely good value for money. Would recommend!

Houston, We Have a Toaster Problem (Warburtons Not Included)
Swan ST19028 Retro 2-Slice ToasterI have made a journey. A toaster journey. At one end: Dualit, the Rolls-Royce of breakfast appliances, price tag to match. At the other end: this. The Swan. The morning slice on a budget.I have no regrets. Mostly. Here’s the thing Swan’s design team apparently didn’t consider: Warburtons. You know — only the UK’s number one bakery brand, dominant force in the wrapped sliced bread market, found in approximately every kitchen in Britain. A standard Warburtons slice does not fit this toaster. Not comfortably. Not without incident. The solution I have developed — through necessity, innovation, and mild morning fury — is to insert the bread vertically, toast one side, pop it up, rotate 180 degrees, reinsert, toast the other. This is not a breakfast routine. This is a project. The silver lining — and I use the term loosely — is that the toaster runs slightly hot on one side anyway, so the forced rotation actually produces a more evenly toasted result than you’d get from a toaster that actually worked properly. I’ve accidentally optimised a flawed system. This may be the most retired-person thing I’ve ever done.Whether other shortcomings exist, I cannot tell you. The toasting saga has consumed all available attention.Stu’s Rating: LIST IT — competent, cheap, and will make you a better toaster operator whether you like it or not.Reviewed by a man who misses his Dualit more than he expected and won’t be admitting that to anyone.
