Brilliant product. Makes phone secure

Works well
It does feel a bit cheap, but it honestly works great. It being extendable makes it convenient if I want to use my phone and clipping it on to my trousers instead of having a long lanyard just makes life great!!

Discreet Anti-Theft Phone Tether. Ideal for the Clumsy or Forgetful
Pros• Retractable steel cable feels sturdy and reassuring• Lockable design adds extra security• More discreet than a full lanyard• 360° metal tether tab allows easy movement without twisting• Simple to attach to belt loops, bags, or rucksacks• Lightweight and easy to carry without getting in the wayCons• Needs something secure to clip onto (belt loop, bag etc.) to work properlyI ordered this mainly for my son, who has a remarkable talent for nearly losing or dropping his phone. Between his clumsiness and general absent-mindedness, the poor phone lives a very adventurous life. He isn’t keen on wearing a lanyard around his neck, and this seemed like a discreet and practical solution. The tether uses a retractable steel cable which clips onto a secure area, such as a belt loop, bag, or rucksack. The phone connects via a tether tab that sits inside the phone case and attaches to the cable. Once set up, the phone can still be used normally, but if it gets dropped or slips out of a pocket, it doesn’t make a dramatic swan dive towards the pavement. And of course, there are the anti-theft benefits too.The retractable cable works well and feels strong enough to give confidence without being bulky. The 360° swivel helps to stop the cable from twisting itself into knots every five minutes; a welcome bonus. In terms of security, it’s not going to turn your phone into a bank vault, but it definitely adds a useful layer of protection against accidental drops or opportunistic snatching. For someone who is forever juggling bags, keys, and a phone, it’s surprisingly handy.ValuePrice-wise, at £9.99 it sits in the middle of the range for phone tethers like this. Some simpler straps are a bit cheaper, while more heavy-duty anti-theft versions can cost quite a bit more. For the build quality and retractable steel line, this feels like fair value.VerdictA simple but clever little gadget that’s perfect for anyone prone to dropping or misplacing their phone. It’s far more subtle than a lanyard, easy to use, and provides a reassuring backup when phones decide to escape pockets. In our house, it may just save one phone from an untimely meeting with the pavement. 📱

Handy for keeping the phone secure, with a bit of compromise
I ordered this item through the Amazon Vine program. This lanyard has been useful for keeping my phone a bit more secure when I am out and about, especially in busier places where you do not want to be constantly checking your pockets. The retractable steel line feels strong enough and the locking function is simple once you get used to it. It gives a bit of reassurance when walking around or travelling, and I like that it clips on securely without feeling like it is going to snap off easily. The attachment tab fits fine with my case and does not get in the way too much during normal use. That said, it is not something I would keep on all the time as it does add a bit of bulk and can feel slightly awkward when the cord is fully extended. The retraction is decent but not always as smooth as I expected, especially when you are moving quickly. It is more of a practical outdoor accessory than an everyday essential for me. I can see it being more useful for hiking or busy events rather than casual use. Overall it does the job, just with a few minor compromises in convenience.3 out of 5

Extra security and peace of mind for very little money
For peace of mind in a busy place (such as a large city), this phone tether ticks all the right boxes. The packet contained the retractable tether itself, a metal keyring, a tether tab, a quick release phone strap and a plastic stud closure attachment (which I think is for ID cards etc).Depending on your case type, you either need the tether tab or the quick release strap. As I have a full case, I used the tether tab. You simply remove the case, place the tab between the phone back and the case, ensuring that the little hoop is protruding through the charging hole at the bottom, and replace the case. Then attach the lanyard via whichever means you prefer (I dispensed with the metal keyring, and simply clipped the lanyard directly to the tab loop). The steel wire extends and retracts easily, and can be locked into whatever length you require, up to a maximum of 63cm, via the little push button on the side of the pulley. I don’t know how strong the cable is, or what force it can withstand, but it certainly feels strong enough to withstand normal day to day use, and should prevent anyone from snatching your phone and running off with it.A couple of things could make this even better;Firstly, the push-to-open ring attached to the lanyard cable actually feels like it’s made of plastic, which will obviously reduce it’s strength considerably. If it were made of metal, it would be much stronger and more reliable.Secondly; the carabiner clip on the lanyard is not lockable. You simply push it to open, and let it go, to allow it to close. Again, this reduces the security factor a little. If it had the screw-lock that many carabiners have, it would be far more secure.Other than those two, relatively minor, points, this is a good, well made security device for keeping your phone (or your keys etc) safe from opportunistic thieves, or from accidentally loss.I highly recommend.

Used these on a ski trip they are amazing quality. The only issue we had is our jackets didn’t have enough loops to loop them so we had to awkwardly loop them and stick in our pockets. The product itself is great though!!

Great, easy to use. Secure and locks at a length you can decide.

It was light weight to carry and easy to use on my recent hike that had different inclines level. I had it strapped to the front of my hiking backpack strap. Only down side was that the tether bops up and down based on your movement. My phone dangle on one part of the incline and it swung and hit my palm really hard. Overall it was still a good purchase for value. It would have been nice if the string only retracts on physical contact and that was have made the rating higher.
