DO NOT BUY – Unless YOU love GL-iNET
I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!… I know, I know, that might seem like a plot twist, given the headline. But stick with me for a second. I’ve been the proud (and occasionally frustrated) owner of this portable router since February 2024, and while it’s a sleek little piece of hardware when it works, there are a few too many “buts” that have me questioning my purchase.Let’s break it down:1. IT OVERHEATS. And when I say overheats, I mean like a Hollywood action hero running through a fireball, except less cool and more inconvenient. If you live or travel anywhere warm, prepare to watch your router go from hero to zero in record time. August 16th will go down in history as the day my Mudi v2’s battery decided it was done. It no longer functions on the go, though it still works when connected to a power outlet. So much for portable.2. Incapable hardware. Yeah, I said it. My dream was to pop in a 1TB MicroSD card and have my own little media hub, sharing files and movies across all my devices. But alas, this dream was crushed. Whether the feature was quietly axed or never really there, it turns out the hardware just isn’t up to the task. Sure, OpenWRT could bring it back from the dead, but that’s like adding jet fuel to a paper airplane. Expect more overheating. Yay.3. Battery life that’ll leave you thirsty. Speaking of power, this thing drains faster than a man lost in the Sahara with a single bottle of water. Even in standby mode, the battery’s doing everything but saving itself. You’ll be charging this little guy more often than you’d like to admit.4. 4G (but maybe 5G if you’re willing to sell a kidney). Yes, the WiFi antenna is replaceable and upgradable to 5G, but here’s the kicker—it’ll cost you almost as much as a new Mudi V2. Ouch. So, what’s my advice? Hold off for something better. Grab yourself a simple, cheap 4G travel router that doesn’t promise the moon and leave you with a handful of moon rocks. Or, if you’re still into GL-iNet, consider one of their other routers that doesn’t have a battery. At least those know what they’re doing.Update Feb 14th 2025:Because the device was still under warranty and my battery died unable to use it on the go, GL-INET was very straightforward and diligent to send me a new uni, right now I have a brand new Mudi sealed in the box, mostly because the novelty wear off and I don’t need a device like this currently as I am WFH and I have the GL-INET Beryl, which does the job. I’ve updated my stars from 3 to 4 because of the customer service and their reliability. I would love to keep the Mudiv2 but as it is now it still lacks what I am looking on all rounded product. My priorities have also changed and I don’t require to be on Wifi all the time, and my phone does the job better with hotspot, as it overheats less or not at all. This product just need more baking, however if I had to travel again, i would probably use the beryl in combination with my phone.Final UPDATE!!:A NEW UPGRADED VERSION WILL BE RELEASED IN FEBRUARY 2026!MUDI 7 5G, search it! And YES, I AM SORRY but it will be probably double the price of this one, but surely more up to the task. I am buying it…I am not saying you should. But it will probably be the best piece of travel hardware out there this 2026! Sayonara!!!

    Needs a good signal
OK but not in a poor signal area. No external antennae connections.

    Don’t buy it.
I have used a lot of Gl.inet products. From the original little Blue box, the USB Microrouter and two GL-SFT1200. I appreciate their innovation and excellent products. So for a recent trip I the GL.Inet Mudi and Esim seemed to tick all the boxes. I knew that I would be travelling but also my wife’s ipad doesn’t have a lot of space so being able to pop a SD Card into pre-loaded with her media would work great. Little did I know how rubbish this would be.The SD Card sharing had been removed by a firmware update but it’s still advertised on here. Having loaded the feature back on, it would just stopped working at random times. Rebooting it worked but only sometimes. The Esim would sometimes work and other times not, it wasn’t based on signal. I purchased a Esim profile but it just wouldn’t take the APN details for that esim profile and decided to eventually not recognize and sim card at all.Now I’m home I’ve decided to reset it and remove the media sharing. But really it’s probably too much trouble. I think I’ll just return it and take the hit on the esim failing.

    Disappointing Experience
I don’t recommend this router—its limitations outweigh its benefits. The network coverage is a strong point, providing reliable signal even in areas with poor reception, and the VPN feature with a kill switch works well. However, that’s where the positives end.My main goal was to use USB tethering with my laptop or phone via USB-C, but this feature isn’t supported, which was a dealbreaker. I’ll be returning it. Additionally, the router’s security is overstated. It doesn’t receive regular security patches, leaving it vulnerable to hacks, especially when broadcasting Wi-Fi in public. This also raises concerns about radiation exposure from constant Wi-Fi signals. The battery life is extremely poor, and it charges other devices very slowly, making it impractical for travel. Overall, this router doesn’t deliver on its promises, so I’d advise against purchasing it.

    So SLOW…really really SLOW
I like Gl.inet and have two of their other routers so I expected to be pleased with the Mudi V2. I’m not, I’m really disappointed. It looks fine although the screen is tiny but….it takes 4 minutes to start and get connected to the internet using sim. It is a real pain. Then the battery life…turned on but not using…about 6 hours….for a travelling router surely it should last all day, I really don’t find that acceptable. It also gets quite warm and although it has supposedly a power bank facility, the charge rate is also terribly slow. So it doesn’t live up to expectation. Putting it into ‘standby’ rather defeats the objective in my case and anyway doesn’t add much battery life. Really sadly I’m having to return it.

Unico punto, devi sapere cosa stai facendo e cosa stai comprando, non è plug and play.

it’s pretty slow to start up, the proprietary adaptor for ethernet is annoying, even set up from an iphone hotspot can take a bit of work to get it going buy having the vpn and storage is pretty handydesign wise it’s slippery as hell and will get scratched up a rubber base or rubber feet would really perfect an already great product5 stars cos it’s better than the nighthawk m1 i replaced it with and isn’t obscenely expensive
